L.A. ballroom

From January-March, 2008, everybody dance! implemented “L.A. Ballroom,” a ballroom dance pilot program funded by the Rosalinde and Arthur Gilbert Foundation.

Through L.A. Ballroom, students received twice−weekly ballroom dance classes over a period of ten weeks. Classes were taught by everybody dance! instructors in the tango, rumba, merengue, foxtrot, and swing. A culminating event was held at the program’s end where students from all schools joined together for a dance competition. USA Dance, a nationwide non-profit organization devoted to promoting the quality and quantity of ballroom dancing, collaborated with everybody dance! by providing judges for the dance competition.

The ballroom dance program attracted coverage by KCBS, KABC and Univision’s local Los Angeles station, channel 34. Due to the success of L.A. Ballroom, everybody dance! plans to offer the program again from September through December 2008, and to expand the ballroom instruction from seven schools to thirteen schools. The program is expected to reach approximately 300 students.
