One Person Truly Made A Difference
July 21, 2017
As most of you already know, Carol Zee, our extraordinary Artistic Director, stepped down June 30 and passed the torch to Tina Banchero. Tina has been our Artistic Manager for the past year and an everybody dance! Teaching Artist for five years. She is a dynamic, amazing leader and artist who has worked closely with Carol to ensure a smooth transition. Even though we are sad to see her go, Carol is leaving everybody dance! in strong, capable hands.
17 years ago, Liza found the creative and talented Carol Zee and shared with her a vision for an after-school dance program that would bring high quality dance instruction to students who might not otherwise have access.
Carol was instantly taken with the idea and agreed to design the program that would become everybody dance! Carol’s and Liza’s perseverance and dedication eventually led to award-winning after-school and in-school dance programs through everybody dance! as well as multiple partnerships bringing the everybody dance! model of training to organizations such as Camino Nuevo Charter Academy, Para Los Niños, Summer Night Lights, Camp Ubuntu Watts, and The Children’s Institute.
A seed that was first planted with just 35 students, is now an extraordinary program that gives over 3,000 students annually the opportunity to experience dance as a catalyst for inspiring new ways of thinking, problem solving, and planning futures.
We want to honor Carol for giving her heart and soul to the Gabriella programs and family.
Her compassion and care will continue to have a profound impact on the Los Angeles community for years to come. We wish her all the best in the future and will continue to give life to the programs she was so integral in creating!
